The Boy The Doctors Couldn't Cure
The Boy the Doctors Couldn't Cure
The beautiful house in Capernaum was quiet. The nobleman who lived there was brokenhearted. His little boy was very, very sick.
"There is nothing we can do for him," said the doctors. And they shook their heads.
"Nothing to do - nothing to do - " thought the nobleman, as he stood by his son's bed. "Nothing, unless - "
Then he suddenly thought of something! Jesus was in the town of Cana! The nobleman had heard his friends telling wonderful tales of how Jesus was teaching, and curing the sick -
"Get my horse ready," the nobleman said to his servants. "I'm going to Cana!"
The servants hurried to obey, and as the nobleman left, he said, "Take care of my son. I'm going to bring Jesus back with me!" And off he went to Cana as fast as he could go.
It was about one o'clock when the nobleman got to Cana. When he saw the crowds, his heart sank. "Jesus will be too busy to come," he thought, as he pushed his way through the crowd. "He won't be able to come, and my son will die," he thought, as he struggled to get up close to where Jesus was. By the time he got to Jesus, the nobleman was almost crying.
"Please, Jesus!" he said. "Come to Capernaum and heal my son!"
Jesus looked at the nobleman, with the kindest eyes in the world. Jesus didn't say he would come. He didn't say he WOULDN'T come. He said something far more wonderful. He simply said, "Go back home. Your son is better."
And suddenly, in his heart, the nobleman KNEW that his son was better. He thanked Jesus, and went back through the crowds, and started for home. All his fear was gone. He knew Jesus meant what he said.
All the way home he thought about it. And as he got near his house -
Servants from his house - running to meet him! "Your son did not die!" they cried. "He is well!"
"I know - I know!" said the nobleman. "Jesus healed him!" And they all started back for the house.
"Just when," asked the nobleman on the way back to the house, "did my son start to get better?"
"About one o'clock," they cried. "Yes - it was just one o'clock."
"Ahhh," he said quietly, "that is just what I expected you to say. For that is just the hour Jesus said to me, 'Go back home - your son is better.'"
And they bowed their heads then and there and thanked God.
And oh - the house in Capernaum was bright again! And the nobleman was happy. Jesus had healed his son without even seeing him. Nobody else could do that.
But Jesus could. He is the Son of God.

THINK!
Actually we have doctors to help make us well. But who do you suppose helps the doctors? Do you think it's right to ask God to make us better when we have doctors? Why?
A VERSE TO LEARN
